Question 2 Slavery has been an astounding conflict throughout our democracys early history. Many people judgment it was unconstitutional, alone regardless eradicating it was a colossal struggle that took legion(predicate) years. benjamin Banneker took a firm position on the iniquity of thralldom and wrote to Thomas Jefferson about its negativity. He implements several rhetorical strategies to fence against thraldom including ethos, anaphora, and pathos. Banneker uses several honest appeals that attack Jeffersons professional-slavery view. He begins his letter by referring to an analogy and reminding Jefferson of the oppressed presumption that the colonies were in under Great Britains rule. He indeed compares it to the on-going condition of the slaves and how its similar. He also states that while Jefferson is unspoiled convinced of the benevolence of the father he is hypocritical and he counteracts his mercies by allowing slavery to continue. B y referring to the Father it shows that Jefferson and Banneker have a mutual God, but it also criticizes Jefferson for not doing the respectable thing. These ethical appeals make Jefferson winder if he is doing the right thing. To remain pro forma and polite Banneker throughout the letter refers to Jefferson as sir. Banneker begins his letter with sir and repeats it at the beginning of each paragraph. By using this anaphora Banneker shows that thoughtlessness not approving of Jeffersons view on slavery he still has the upmost respect for him, and that he wont degrade him just because they view slavery differently. potpourri of he reasons with him to state his opinion. By using the word sir Banneker shows Jefferson that he is a dignified person with class, and it is difficult for Jefferson to uprise impatience when Banneker shows him so much respect. Benjamin Banneker also uses pathos in his argument against slavery. He refers to slavery as cruel b urdensomeness and an injustice.
